METOPROLOL+S AMLODIPINE

About

METOPROLOL+S AMLODIPINE belongs to a class of medication called anti-hypertensive agents primarily used in the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). Also, METOPROLOL+S AMLODIPINE is used to treat chest pain, irregular heart rhythm. Hypertension is a condition in which the force exerted by the blood against the artery walls becomes so high that it causes health problems, such as heart disease.

METOPROLOL+S AMLODIPINE is a combination of two drugs, namely: Metoprolol (beta-blocker) and S-Amlodipine (calcium channel blocker). Metoprolol works by blocking beta receptors in the heart and makes the heart to beat slowly and with less force. Thereby, it decreases the pressure at which blood is pumped out of the heart and throughout the body. S-Amlodipine works by acting on muscle cells in the artery walls and relaxes muscle cells. Thereby, relaxes and widens arteries (blood vessels) and improves the blood flow and oxygen supply to the heart. Thus, together they lower high blood pressure.

Take METOPROLOL+S AMLODIPINE as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to take METOPROLOL+S AMLODIPINE for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you based on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience tiredness, dizziness, slow heart rate, nausea, headache, orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure when standing up from sitting or lying position), stomach pain or fluid retention. Most of these side effects of METOPROLOL+S AMLODIPINE do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to METOPROLOL+S AMLODIPINE or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is advised to consult a doctor before taking METOPROLOL+S AMLODIPINE. Avoid drinking alcohol with METOPROLOL+S AMLODIPINE as it may increase the risk of low blood pressure and cause adverse effects such as dizziness, fainting, light-headedness or headache. Drive only if you are alert as METOPROLOL+S AMLODIPINE may cause dizziness or tiredness. Avoid grapefruit or grapefruit juice with METOPROLOL+S AMLODIPINE as it may increase the risk of severe low blood pressure.

    Patients Concern

    Disease/Condition Glossary

Hypertension: Blood pressure is the measurement of the force that the heart uses to pump blood to all parts of the body. Hypertension is a chronic condition in which blood pressure is too high. This condition can lead to hardened arteries (blood vessels), decreasing the blood and oxygen flow to the heart. Raised blood pressure can cause chest pain (angina) and heart attack (when blood supply to the heart is blocked). Additionally, high blood pressure also causes brain damage (stroke) and kidney failure. High blood pressure can be diagnosed with the help of a blood pressure monitor or sphygmomanometer. Systolic pressure is the pressure when the heart pumps blood out. On the other hand, diastolic pressure is the pressure when your heart is at the resting stage between heartbeats. If your blood pressure is 140/90 mm of Hg, it means the systolic pressure is 140 mm of Hg and, diastolic pressure is 90 mm of Hg. Normal blood pressure lies in between 90/60 mm of Hg and 120/80 mm of Hg. If the blood pressure is 140/90 mmHg or greater, it is considered as high blood pressure.
